Bruce had had enough. He had failed. He malfunctioned so frequently on the set of Jaws that Steven had to move on without him. His conspicuous absence is part of what made Jaws such a success. What did that say about him? He was supposed to be the star, not just a threat off screen. Sadly, his retirement as part of an attraction at Universal Studios didn’t work out any better. Young children just laughed. Maybe all he needed was a new venue … a change of scenery. Yeah, that’s it …
For those who don't know, Steven Spielberg had issues with the mechanical shark on the set of the original Jaws movie. The shark's nickname was indeed named Bruce - after Spielberg's lawyer!
