Playful and provocative

Jitterbug Perfume is wacky, whimsical and weird which produced a lively and spirited book discussion on Tom Robbins story about the god Pan, a Pagan king, beets, perfumers and a cult of people trying to find immortality. For writers, this piece was a look at literary, surrealist satire that poked fun at the romance genre. The descriptions, one-liners and eye-opening vocabulary put this saga in a league of its own.

This was my second reading of Jitterbug Perfume. I found it just as much fun the second time. I'm in awe of his wordsmithing, use of similes, metaphors, personification and other writerly tools. I enjoyed his meanderings from the basic plot, but always returning to the main characters and their dilemmas. I've read several of Robbins' stories and recommend him.
