Scribblers and Scholars Book Schedule

Great book discussion on September's pick, "Demon Copperhead" by Barbara Kingsolver, an updated version of Dickens "David Copperfield” transposed to the modern-day Appalachia.

One of the writing lessons I learned from Kingsolver's work is that for your characters to ring true, you have to love them, or at least sympathize with them, even the bad ones. You need to put yourself inside their head, so you know what it's like to be them.

  • Upcoming Reading Schedule:

  • November 15, 2023 "The Ghost Writer" by Alessandra Torre

  • January 17, 2024 "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" by Gabrielle Zevin

  • March 20, 2024 "The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue" by V.E.Schwab

"The more that you read, the more things you will know."
