Season's Readings 2024

Hi All,

It was a bitterly cold morning and my hopes for a well attended event was waning. I went upstairs before we started to rustle up an audience but there wasn't anyone in the library proper except the staff; other than the spouses that attended, we had two people. Although they did stay for the whole two hours.  I have some pictures that I will post to the website and on our Facebook page.

Laura wasn't feeling well, but being a Navy alum made it in time to help setup, and did a great job while performing her own two  pieces plus The Little Match Girl by Nancy Low (sailors are tough). Kathy Pecha read Chris's two pieces and did an excellent job, as she did with Bonnie Boursaw's The White Dress from Uneven Terrain. Kay read her original piece titled A White Christmas. Nancy Renko read several pieces and finished with an original  modernized comical version of The Night Before Christmas. Marylou's readings were smooth and eloquent. She read two from her own novels and one from A Mixing Bowl of Words and Recipes.

My period costumes, including a black top hat, and a green nightcap with a puffy white ball dangling from the end, went over well. I had planned to wear a Victorian cape as part of my ensemble, making a grand entrance, but the velcro fastener at the neck kept coming undone. I started us off with my newest flash fiction Elf on the Shelf and finished the event with the classic A Visit From St Nicholas.

Even with the low turnout, the MMW readers did a professional and eloquent reading. A huge thank you to Nancy R, Kay, Kathy, Marylou, and especially Laura (get well soon) for braving the biting cold to perform.

Happy holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

See you next year,

Ken
